ABOUT THIS PHOTO: This picture was taken with a NIKON D3X and a lense at 400mm. The original filename is DSC_7501.jpg. It was taken with an aperture of f/4 at 1/500 using ISO 180 and Shutter Priority.

The Grimmsel Pass is a beautiful, ridable, mountain pass through a glacial hydro lake area. The lower north ramp is fast, smooth sweepers leading to the twisty top. The south ramp is switchbacks down to the village of Gletsch. Cross the bridge at Gletsch and the Furka Pass begins, winding up past the Rhone Glacier and onto Andermatt. Or, turn right (south) before crossing the bridge and ride the Nufenen Pass just a few miles down the road. Better yet, do them all all day long. I've ridden the Grimsel many times, in both directions and don't have a directional preference. If coming up from the North, right at the top of the Grimmsel Pass, there is a wide pull out on the right and a stop light that controls traffic on a single track lane leading into another high valley. The traffic light operates in 2 x 10 minute intervals and is worth the wait to ride the road. There are 5 glaciers and two lakes along the 10 km route, culiminating in a the second lake, dominated by a spectacular glacier. There's a fine inn and resturaunt at the end of the road. Police presence is minimal and primarily on the lower northern ramp. Overall, the Grimsel is one of my favourites. Put it together with the Furka Pass and you may just find your ultimate, ultra long, riding experience. Take some water proofs, the Grimsel can be raining - at the same time, the Furka may be dry.
