The opening ceremony will feature a floating stage on the sea and a procession of boats and ships.

During the festival, there will be domestic and international music as well as dance performances, an international trade fair, a fireworks display, a food fair, and the Miss Ha Long 2008 beauty contest.

Hanoi tour

The situation in Thailand may leave travellers seeking an alternative in the region over Christmas, and the islands of Vietnam are offering themselves as a luxurious option.

World Heritage listed Halong Bay and Cat Ba Islands have long been lauded as a natural wonder, situated in the Tonkin Gulf.

A tour offered by Luxury Travel will allow tourists to drive through the Red River Delta to Ha Long City, where the journey will continue cruising through the waters of Halong Bay.

From Halong Bay, the boat travels to Cat Ba, where the national park and island can be explored at leisure.

The entire tour includes private pick up and drop off in Hanoi, an English speaking guide, a mountain bike for cycling through Cat Ba National Park, local ferries, a private cabin on the cruise and a gala dinner.
