Halloween Parade 2009: NYC Gets Ready: Ghost Walks, Hallow Meme
New York City is getting ready for the 2009 Halloween Parade, which goes up 6th Avenue from Spring Street to 21st Street. (Parade Route for Halloween Parade NYC) This is the place to see the most outlandish costumes and floats. The Greenwich Village Halloween Parade starts at 7pm, but revelers start congregating at local watering holes in the late afternoon, especially since Halloween falls on a Saturday. The parade route gets very crowded, so if you have a friend with roof access along 6th Ave, make that phone call. Or join the parade.
Also, get ready for Hallow Meme at Fontana's in the Lower East Side, dedicated to dressing up as cool stuff you saw online... like you're not doing that anyway. That's not all: there's a party on 10th between 1st and 2nd Aves: The 33rd Annual East Village Costume Ball.
At midnight attendees can parade past a panel of judges in the Monsters and Miracles Costume Parade. Prizes will go to winners in categories including “Most Roman Polanski,” “Most Economically Recovered” and “Most Unchanged Conservative.” But with so many options for Halloween carousal, why choose this one? “It’s the grandest Halloween celebration in the city,” Ms. Field said. “And everyone knows it.”
Also, The Church of St. John the Divine will be screening Nosferatu with organ accompaniment. I'd be there if I still lived in the city.
Also, check out Action Arts League's Green Halloween.
Also, the subway is the best place to see Halloween surreality. Just make sure that your train is running. What? F-Train disruptions? I'm shocked. Shocked.

The annual Village parade is really fun, especially the giant puppets! Union Square is the best place to catch the pre-parade's activities.
