Why is New York the last state in the Happiest States in the America? This seems not right to me- even though it is shown as mean in movies, New York City I've found to be very friendly. Maybe people on Long Island are miserable or something. I suppose that statistics can say whatever you want them to say.
I was reading Mr Krishna's story and had to keep scrolling down and down and down to find the city I now call home. Okay, now I'm sad! :D
I have never been to Louisiana, but perhaps I really should visit!

I agree, I've always found New York to be a very friendly state.
Maybe it's the high rent/mortgage in the city making people unhappy?

I notice that Washington D.C. is also on the list. Since when has the district been considered a "State" ?
If DC is unhappy as #37 on the list, I would venture to say, we are in worse shape than reported.
Also notice that many of the unhappiest States lie within the tired and drained Northeast. I'm happy I left #43 over twenty years ago and have resided in #3 during this time except for a short while in #8 last year, although I might get demoted to #12 soon with prospects of a new job.
