Hoi an a quiet ancient town in the central province of Quang Ninh, was jubilant when 80 Miss Universe contestants arrived Wednesday.
The beauties put on ao dai dresses to participate in a parade entitled, “Hoi An ancient town at night.” Some 10,000 watched as they travelled around the city on pedicab. More than 700 colorful lanterns with the names of contestants and their countries of origin were lit along Tran Phu Street.
The beauties enjoyed a performance of traditional music and dance at Chua Cau Bridge and released colourful lanterns by the river which floated into the sky. The organizing board of the contest gave VND200 million (US$12,000) to fund nine scholarships to help the provincial government support disadvantaged residents.
