The Hottentot Venus: Resurrected!

The Venus Revolution is proud to announce The Harlem Bombshell as their official spokeswoman. Actress and model "Shelly" will be joining the Venus Revolution Tour this year. With the plus-sized women's movement gaining momentum and America's "Booty Craze" in full effect, this tour is right on time. The Venus Revolution is a multi-media arts and culture movement that provides a contemporary vision of a forgotten historical figure known
as The Hottentot Venus.

About the Hottentot Venus:

The Hottentot Venus (whose actual
name was Saartjie Baartman) was from South Africa. In the year 1810, upon
seeing her enormous buttocks, an Englishman convinced her that she could make a
fortune if she visited Europe and exhibited herself. Saartjie traveled through
England and France where she was exhibited under the description, 'La Vénus
Hottentote‘. The image and story of "The Hottentot Venus" swept
through European pop culture for many years.

While Saartjie Baartman became an
icon that forever changed the world; she was also subjected to many degrading
scientific and medical experiments that formed the bedrock of European myths
about black women that exist even now.

The Mission:

Creator, Hotep hopes the historical relevance and
controversial nature of the VENUS REVOLUTION exhibits will educate and empower women world-wide; but even more importantly, create a shift in dominant
cultures idea of beauty and the
Black Woman. With the Harlem Bombshell at his side, it seems he is right on-target!
