After touring Europe for six weeks the sensational Il Divo have arrived here, kicking off their American tour April 28, 2009, starting in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the Metro which holds 10,000 seats.
These young men mesmerized the crowd with their tenor and baritone voices. The $125 tickets in the orchestra seating was worth every penny. Their CD's are fantastic, but there is something about receiving a glance and a smile live from Carlos Marin that will stay with me forever. I held David Miller's warm and firm hand for a few moments, as "we" walked down the stage. Thousands of Haligonians gathered, smiled, swayed and kissed listening to the likes of Don't Break My Heart and Unchained Melody. To my relief, there wasn't a lot of distracting flashing lights and props. They didn't need it.
The audience was at their best behaviour. Of course, this is Halifax. When invited to come up and dance the salsa, no one stepped forward. But that didn't stop a few unnamed people from tossing their knickers on stage. It didn't distract them from their singing. Neither did the mike malfunction. They exchanged smiles and carried on without missing a beat. It was warming to see the spontaneous personal exchange. They are true champions. The Il Divo Orchestra, consisted not only of violins and piano, but electric guitars and drums.
Il Divo formed five years ago. The members include the suave Spanish Calos Marin, the soft Lion David Miller from the USA, the sensible Sebastien Izambard from France and the Urs Buhler hailing from Switzerland, who is a bit of an enigma. Personally I think he is an HSP; sensitive, creative people who are often misunderstood.
Their signature includes Armani suits with styles never seen before. They often seem to have an ancient coliseum in the backdrop. They have modernized opera into what is known as "popera". Did you ever think you would hear Moody Blue's Night in White Satin sung in opera?
They sang a tribute to "Mama". Thank you for who I am, sorry for the storms, I know you had your dreams. How can one not be affected when hearing this? They delighted us with singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters not yet recorded.
Last night I slept more deeply than I ever. I had forgotten what that feels like. I have shed ten years off my life in just one night. Is that possible? My sleep also brought me a message... Love is worth fighting for. Going to their concert is a good place to start.Omaira from Venezuela sat next to me and I could feel her exuberance. Karl from BC sat next to her, was totally enraptured by them, I think I even saw a tear or two. This group appeals not only to women, but men alike... And to all age groups. Love is the universal language.
I was unable to interview them, but I am sure it would have gone like this, as said by David Miller.
"We four have become like brothers. We've shared so many amazing experiences - we went to NASA together, to the beach in Australia, shared private jets. It's all been new to all of us. We make light of it, almost a buffer against how excited we are. Because if we really let out how we feel all the time, we'd be like nerdy little boys!"
Good luck Il Divo with the rest of the tour. And boys, feel free to drop a line in the comments section, and tell us how it is going for you.

Love them and have all their CD's. It is wonderful to bring this music to the masses. They were here in Zürich also and were a huge hit. Urs Buhler is from Switzerland and the Swiss are huge fans.
