W.T. and I attended the Jacqueline Conoir Spring 2009 show last night at BC Fashion Week. I'm going to be blunt... I won't be racing over to the showroom next Spring to bulk up my wardrobe. I found the collection didn't have one cohesive theme. Designer, RozeMerie Cuevas, showed white suits, black suits, loud flowery dresses, sequins, and khaki, with references to the 70's, 80's and 90's. It didn't all tie together. Some of the items looked cheap, like they were purchased from Suzy Shier or Fairweather. Perhaps it was the choice of fabric or the fact that many items looked like they hadn't been ironed upon removal from garment bags. There were a couple of stand out items, such as the flowing caftans and the pretty floral summer dresses. But what was up with the bright and tacky pajama style pants?!

Now, on to the models... With the exception of 3 or 4, the girls seriously need a lesson in the runway walk. Where is Miss J when she's needed? Granted, most of these girls probably don't get the opportunity to walk many shows in Vancouver, but their agencies should be holding runway workshops. My agent was a drill sergeant when I was 14. She made all her new girls attend Friday evening walking classes until our walks were flawless. There were girls last night with flailing arms, spastic fingers, jutting necks and swaying shoulders. And when did the height requirement decrease? A lot of the models looked to be 5'6" or under, and breast implants do not equal high fashion. Plus, will someone please feed these young girls? The clothes looked too big on many of them which led the garments to look ill fitting and unfinished.

So there it is... my rather brutal review of the first show at BC Fashion Week... perhaps I'm jaded from my reviews of the incredible NY and London Fashion Weeks or perhaps it really was that bad.
