Karl Lagerfeld 2011 Pirelli Calendar: Mythology & Nudity (Photos)
Pirelli 2011 Calendar Features Julianne Moore, Lakshmi Menon, Erin Wasson, Bianca Balti
Karl Lagerfeld shot the 2011 Pirelli calendar at his Paris studio, based on a theme of Greek and Roman Mythology. The calendar features 15 female and 5 male models, along with Julianne Moore, who is depicted as Hera, opposite Brad Kroenig as Zeus.
The 2011 Pirelli calendar features nude models, and is NSFW.
Other models featured in the Karl Lagerfeld Pirelli calendar include:
- Bianca Balti
- Lakshmi Menon
- Abbey Lee Kershaw
- Isabeli Fontana
- Baptiste Giabiconi
- Jake Davis
- Anja Rubik
The Pirelli calendar has made a tradition of taking the standard service-station calendar to a new level, and bucks the trend by featuring male models. Also, you can't go out and buy the Pirelli calendar, it's given as a gift to friends and clients of the racing tire company.
Karl says his calendar goes deeper than years past:
“I wanted to do something different. I looked at all the other calendars,” he said, adding that his had a message "of timeless beauty and youth.” ... Lagerfeld described himself, slightly tongue in cheek, as “the visual version of [ancient Greek writer] Homer. I did with my camera what he did with his pen, although we understand that he probably didn't use a pen.”
Autoblog has the whole press release, including an interview with Karl Lagerfeld and more photos:
F.B: – Why does Julianne Moore play the part of Hera?
K.L: – I really did want an actress for the wife of Zeus and for the mother of the Olympian gods. Julianne's a beautiful woman – more matronly than the young girls under the olive trees. She's a very dear friend. She knew she wouldn't be running any risks with me – there wouldn't be a parallel publication sold under the counter!
