KFC Double Down Sandwich: Fried Chicken as Bread

KFC Double Down sandwich is the real deal. KFC announced that they will make their famous (or infamous) Double Down sandwich available nationwide on April 12, 2010. The KFC Double Down sandwich challenges the very concept of a sandwich by taking away the bread buns and replacing them with two pieces of fried chicken.

KFC's Double Down has two pieces of fried chicken, and in between are two pieces of bacon and two melted slice of cheese plus Colonel's Sauce. KFC has announced their invention back in August 2009, but was only made available in Rhode Island and Nebraska for testing. Apparently the test went well.

There are two types of Double Down: KFC Original Recipe Double Down and KFC Grilled Double Down. KFC's official website has listed the nutritional information:

  • KFC Original Recipe Double Down has 540 calories, 32 grams of fat, 1380 mg of sodium
  • KFC Grilled Double Down has 460 calories, 23 grams of fat, 1430 mg of sodium

As a reference, the daily recommended intake for adults is about 2,000 calories, 65 grams of fat, and 2400 mg of sodium.

The new KFC Double Down sandwich is real and it's coming April 12th! This one-of-a-kind sandwich features two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets (Original Recipe® or Grilled), two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel's Sauce. This product is so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!

No news for Canadians yet.

LoLoLoL    But then again, my partner can actually eat the grilled one (I think). He is allergic to the gluten in bread & breading...
