2009 Lilac Festival parade (3)

The annual Lilac Festival is underway in Rochester, New York.  The Lilac Festival 2009 will run for 10 days; from May 8, 2009 to May 18, 2009 and will feature more than 560 varieties of lilacs. The 2009 Rochester Lilac Festival is being held in Highland Park.

Rochester New York currently has one confirmed case of H1N1 Swine Flu and 17 suspected cases of the illness but city officials decided to go ahead with the Lilac Festival.  Rochester residents planning to attend the 2009 Rochester Lilac Fair are asked to observe basic H1N1 aware hygiene and to stay away from the event if they are feeling ill.

The lilacs are in good form, having glided through the frigid winter and the up-and-down spring.

It wasn't easy but they came through in flying colors, which is a lesson in itself for the rest of us.

The festival is about more than the 1,250 lilac bushes and 560 varieties of the hardy spring flower.

There are music, food, vendors of all kinds — challenging the lilacs in sheer number of offerings — and all that makes this one of the best spring festivals in the country.

The weather can be dicey, but then nobody promised us a rose garden.

According to the report "The woman and her roommate were treated and officials say they're confident her case hasn’t spread in the community." Hm, well it takes about a week to get the results back and as far as I'm concerned there could be more cases currently.

The weather was perfect for the annual Lilac Festival Parade. Seen here are photos taken of the various parade-goers and participants enjoying the flowers, festivities, arts and crafts, and spirited atmosphere.

Are the vendors for the whole festival or just on weekends?
