London Fashion Week Relocates to Somerset House
London Fashion Week is celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year, and as the week debuted organizers announced that the event would relocate from the Natural History Museum to Somerset House for next season.
LFW has been held at the Natural History Museum for close to a decade and the white fashion tents erected in the grounds of the museum, have become a familiar site to West Kensington passers-by on Cromwell and Exhibition Roads.
Somerset House sits on the south side of the Strand in central London and overlooks the River Thames. It is an 18th century Neoclassical building by architect Sir William Chambers and, as a space now dedicated to visual arts, will make a spectacular backdrop for future seasons of London Fashion Week. 'Dancing fountains' were installed in the central courtyard in the 90's, a space which is also home to an ice rink in the winter and a concert/movie screening venue in the summer.
New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is also relocating next season, saying goodbye to the tents at Bryant Park and moving to Lincoln Center for the Spring/Summer 2010 showings in September 2009.
