The Londoner Brew Pub in Bangkok is a microbrewery that serves lots of different food, including pub grub, and has plenty of sports on its numerous television sets.

This  large, almost cavernous, downstairs pub opened about nine years ago if memory serves correctly and there were problems right from the start. Inexperienced owners, microbrewed beer that wasn't very good and a location that was a little iffy for the times contributed to an extended period of aimlessness for the Londoner. But things started to turn around with the hiring of a new GM, David Williamson, a very experienced food and beverage guy and club manager.

Since then, the microbrewed beer has become quite good, the food is at a very high standard, there are very popular promotions that attract big numbers of people, and everything is just peachy here. One of the things that was a bit off-putting about this pub at first is the sheer size of the place because even if there was 100 people inside it looked empty. That has now become an asset, however, because of the large number of people that always seem to be here. This is due to a combination of things including the food as mentioned above and the beer but it's also because of the overall atmosphere and the number of events that are held here as well as the affiliations that the Londoner has including its own football club (soccer for you Yanks), golf club and netball club and its support of the Southerners sports club.

Speaking of sports, another reason to visit the Londoner is to watch sports as there are TVs everywhere. I've watched some big rugby games here and it's a good atmosphere with plenty of people cheering usually for both sides. There's a very large menu here and the prices are not low. However, the quality is very good so you'll feel like you received good value for money after dining here. The menu is so large because it covers a wide variety of dishes from international favorites like lasagna and pork knuckle to high-end steaks and a good variety of seafood entries.

There's also a decent-sized pasta section and a good pick of pub grub such as sausage and mash, Cornish pasties, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, roast pork and crackling, and many more. You'll also find burgers, plenty of sandwiches and a whole selection of Thai food. And. lest I forget, I have to mention the dishes that the Londoner proclaims as the food that made them famous: lamb shanks, 500 gram T-bone steak and a salmon steak. If you can't find something that you like on this menu you don't like to eat. Special attractions include daily happy hours, from 4-7 pm and 11 pm til closing, the latter being for ladies only. Talk about a good idea.

There's also Wacky Wednesdays, which the management here boasts of being the best party in Bangkok since drinks are 2 for 1 all night long. Haven't been there for that yet but it's got my curiosity up. There are many other reasons to visit here on a regular basis, including Quiz Night on the last Tuesday of every month, free parking for four hours, free wi-fi and lots of other stuff. Check it out if you're coming to Bangkok or if you live here. You'll find something that's of interest to you either way.
