Milan Fashion Week Begins, Just Cavalli Cancels Runway Show
Milan Fashion Week kicked off on February 25, and will run through March 4 - but without a runway show for Just Cavalli, which was canceled by designer Roberto Cavalli due to financial constraints.
"The difficult situation of Ittierre (the company that owns the brand) did not guarantee that I could be as avant-garde as usual with my youth line," he said.
The Italian luxury goods group IT Holding announced 10 days ago that Ittierre, its main subsidiary, would file for bankruptcy protection because of serious financial problems.
Ittierre also produces Versace Sport, Versace Jeans Couture and Galliano under licence.
Just Cavalli is a line geared towards younger women and was launched in 1998. When Cavalli announced the cancellation of the runway show, he cited a delay in production and delivery - but had 20 models in his showroom sporting some of the pieces that had been delivered.
“I can’t make a show with so few pieces. I don’t like to do 50 per cent. For me, a fashion show is my adrenaline, my emotion. To decide not to show was, for me, very hard.”
Cavalli admitted to being confused as to whether the line would even be manufactured for the Fall/Winter 2009 season, and noted that he was investigating opportunities to wrangle back control of the license to the line or finding other investors to back him.
His more well-known line, Roberto Cavalli, is owned by him and is in no way affected by the fact that Ittierre has gone into administration.

If they had financial proplems, why did they bother to carry out the fashion show, they should have prosponed it until they had their resources.
