Move over Latin love songs. There is serious competition.  His name is Vitas. The one with the diamond voice and charming smile.

Now stop everything you are doing and listen to his video, the voice of an angel prince. After listening to that, I cannot even do literary justice to it. It speaks for itself. This video has been viewed over four million times!

However if you continue reading, you will find a remarkable story. A superstar in Russia, China, Japan, Asia, but not well known in America.

Quote

These are not just music and words, this is medication.
Maxim, Russia

While, in America, we think "light energy" demeans serious music talent,  not so abroad who embrace Vitas as an icon.

All Vitas's voice power, all abilities of his light energy filled this work which he called "Light Of A New Day". This is the separate world of music and voice for those who needs emotional protection and an aura of kindness and light, who needs support in this life. We have received thousands of letters from different corners of the world for 10 years. People tell us about feelings and emotions which they had listening to Vitas's voice, feeling the atmosphere of the concert and music. Many people wrote about unusual and nearly magic influence of this atmosphere on their inner state. Many people try to use Vitas's music as a kind therapy, while some medical institutions Vitas's music therapy became an
official part of medical programme. Here are some examples of such usage.

If that is not incredible enough... READ ON!

It is his voice heard at the opening of the Olympics in China.

Vitas was the only foreign artist to sing at the Olympic kickoff concert on 29 July 8.

He is the youngest artist who performed a solo concert at the Kremlin.

In 2002 at the personal request of the Council of the Worldwide League "Intellect Without Drugs" Vitas and his producer Sergey Pudovkin joined the Board of Guardian of the Worldwide League and became its honorary members alongside with Patriarch of All Russia, Dalai Lama, Koffey Annan, Tina Turner, the presidents of more than 20 countries. Vitas was presented "the Stone of the World", which is 350 million years old, at the ceremony of purification at the foot of the sacred mountain Tashtar Ata. According to the legend, this stone has absorbed all the good deeds of the world during the whole history of the mankind.

But who is he? A composer, singer, actor....

Vitas... is a Russian pop singer, composer, actor, and fashion designer. He is most commonly known by his shortened first name, Vitas, or Витас in Russian. Much of his music is straightforward pop influenced by techno, and occasionally classical opera.

He has received much of his fame through Russian television and is planning to sign to entertainment labels in countries such as China, Korea, and Japan in order to expand to those markets. Vitas' 2000 video "Opera #2" has been forwarded frequently via the Internet, which accounts for much of his worldwide recognition.

...Vitas was born Vitaliy Vladasovich Grachov on 19 February 1981 in Latvia. He first appeared in Russia in December 2000 with his hit Opera #2, which was notable for use of Vitas' surprisingly high-pitched and energetic countertenor voice.

The album "A Kiss As Long As Eternity" released on October 8, 2004 had unprecedented record sales in Russia and CIS: more than 2 million copies were sold less than half a

year. The total number of CD's sold during the period of the singer’s creative activity exceeded 10 million copies.

His music is absolutely mesmerizing. Even if you don't know the words. But for those curious here are the translations. His songs can make the blind see and the lame walk again, I swear. I simply cannot stop dancing to his beat!

What fans say about him...

It is Vitas’s music which helped me to survive. I owe him my life. He is always by my side, he is near 24 hours a day. I fall asleep with "A Autumn Leaf" and wake up with “Kiss”, on the way to work I listen to "Oh, God, How I Love" and "Crane’s Cry". These are not just music and words, this is medication.

We were really impressed by the way he was communicating with us. He behaved like our equal, without any haughtiness, putting on airs or something like that. He looked not like a celebrity but like a simple boy, with an open heart, very sincere, with true feelings, without any pretence. It was hard to believe that all those 5 years in Russian showbiz didn't leave any vicious sign on him, didn't affect his personality in a negative way. He managed to remain himself, to keep his true nature and not let his heart become hard and stiff. He talked with us not "out of duty" but because he wanted to talk.

Great article.  You have found the wonder of Vitas!  It is difficult to explain to those who have not yet caught the "Vitas Virus" what a wonderful affliction it is.  ))))  As we say, there is no cure....but you will not want to be cured.

I saw "Sleepless Nights" twice last week (Tianjin and Beijing).   Just amazing.  He is an angel.  Well, a little bit of devil too I think.  Ha!  Some pretty provocative dance moves!  But he does it with a such a wholesome joy!   He is like a happy drug!
