National Pink Day, Not to be Confused With Pink T-shirt Day

June 23, 2009 is many things... two days after the longest day of the year (aka the summer solstice), two days after Father's Day in North America... it is also National Pink Day Not to be confused with the anti-bullying initiative Pink T-shirt Day, which was marked on February 27, 2009, National Pink Day is just a day to honor the color.

So how does one "honor" the color pink? By wearing something pink-toned, obviously. But if you are not comfortable in the color pink for whatever reason there are other ways to celebrate all things P-I-N-K. Here are some off the cuff honoring National Pink Day suggestions, some serious others silly:

  • Listen to music by Pink; play it loud!
  • Host a Pink Panther marathon for friends and loved ones; serve pink food and cream soda to drink.
  • Eat something pink; strawberry ice cream or pink cotton candy are good choices.
  • Chew original (no fruit flavored stuff) bubble gum all day long and blow big, huge pink bubbles as often as possible, cracking the gun is optional.
  • Hand out "Pink Eye" awareness material; conjunctivitis, be it viral, bacterial, or allergic, is no fun!
  • Dye your hair pink (if you dare), or if that is too drastic, dye your pet's hair pink.  Use red food coloring or cherry Kool-Aid, it washes out easily in a matter of days.
  • Tie-Dye a ton of t-shirts pink and store them away to distribute on the next anti-bullying Pink T-shirt Day.
  • Create pink art; a pink painting, a pink sculpture, maybe even pink macramé. Sell your art and donate the funds to Breast Cancer Research, the ultimate pink charity.
  • Not artistic? Do some sort of Breast Cancer Research fund raising or make a donation to the Pink Ribbon campaign... which just maybe the very best way to honor National Pink Day.
It's easy to enjoy and to participate in National Pink Day. Bring your pink elephant out of hiding. Wear pink, and show off everything you have that's pink, from clothing and shoes to other possessions. Be creative. Use food coloring to make pink meals. Pink frosting on a cake or cookies will be a big hit today.
