Never Mind the Anabolics: Brewdog's Olympic Protest Beer
Brewdog Protests the Olympics Turning London into a Corporate Whorehouse
Upstart Scottish brewery Brewdog is known for making friends of beer lovers and enemies of mega-corporations. Brewdog gave us an 110-proof beer packaged in roadkill, as well as Viagra beer.
To that end, Brewdog has unveiled Never Mind the Anabolics ("for the insipid generation"), a beer brewed with eight substances that would get an athlete banned from the Olympics.
- Creatine
- Guarana
- Lycii Berries
- Kola Nut
- Gingko
- Matcha Tea
- Maca Powder
- Steroids
Wait, WTF? Steroids? Brewdog cheated a bit on this one: steroids were only included in the test batch, which will not reach the general public. You won't have to worry about roid rage from Never Mind the Anabolics.
Never Mind the Anabolics is meant to protest the fact that not only is the Olympics a blatant gimme to corporate sponsors, but sponsors whose products are patently unhealthy, i.e. McDonald's and Coca-Cola. Of course, this is also a convenient rationale for Brewdog to do what it does best: troll people while pushing the limits of what defines "beer".
