Power Outage at Newark Liberty Airport Disrupts Air Travel

A partial power outage at Newark's Liberty Airport (EWR) disrupted operations for over an hour. Terminals A, B and C were affected, though the control tower runs on an alternate power supply and did not shut down. If you're flying to or from Newark Airport, check the EWR website to make sure your plans haven't just changed.

The power outages have affected the security screening areas, with only parts of Terminal C being able to operate its security apparatus.

The AirTrain was also shut down during the power outage, which affected travelers coming to or from NJT trains and long-term parking.

A witness e-mailed Fox 5 News saying that power went out in Terminal C at about 2:25 p.m.

Sources told Fox 5's Lisa Evers that the air traffic control tower is operating on backup power and that security-screening checkpoints are out of service except at C1 and C2.
