Nina Ricci taking legal action against the new Twilight perfume
UPDATE:
Nina Ricci has confirmed that they will be taking legal action against the makers of the Twilight perfume.
PREVIOUS COVERAGE:
The makers of the new Twlight perfume seem to have used the exact same design bottle as 'Nina' by Nina Ricci.
The bottle is so similar that even the leaves on the top look the same; the only difference seems to be the colour and of course, the box.
The apple shape invokes the image of forbidden fruit, and although this seems to fit in with the Twilight theme, the Nina Ricci one came first so maybe they might want to think about changing that.

They care because it is ILLEGAL. It infringes on someone else's copyright. The bottle design was not the individual material of the makers of the Twilight perfume, therefore they have no legal right to distribute and make profit off of it. It doesn't matter if it's the "Forbidden Fruit of Twilight", it's stealing someone else's work.
Point of the matter, the apple may be Twilight's logo, but the bottle design they used so closely resembles the Nina Ricci design it may as well be stealing. There are other ways to design an apple shaped bottle.

of course the bottle would be an apple. its twilight for goodness sakes. and it is different from watever this perfume is. i highly doubt that twilight will be sued. anyways. i bet they didnt STEAL it. its a accident, so Nina or watever sould give it a break. apple, twilight, connection...

...They are STRIKINGLY similar; the leaves are in precisely the same places (I think that's enough to get them into trouble, personally), as is the general shape. The only things that are really different is the hue of the bottle, what they're made out of (I bet the Twilight one's cheap tat; that lid looks like painted plastic), and the fact that the bulb on the rip-off is smaller in proportion with the leaves. Oh, and the cliche tripe about forbidden fruit.
Reading on another site, the Ricci ones might be handmade crystal, and designed specially.
Anyone who didn't see this coming must be near enough blind.

Well, it's easy to tell who the wankers that are obsessed with twilight are.
"OMFG ITZ JUST A PERFUM BOTTEL WHO CARS ITS A APLE LOTS OF PPL HAV APPLES"
Correction, I don't think they give a damn whether it is an apple or not. Lolita Lempika is shaped like an apple but there's no lawsuit there. They're only suing because the bottle looks EXACTLY like Nina Ricci's. If they had any originality they'd make a different shaped bottle. However, seeing as it's twilight, non-originality is a requirement.

Just change the leaves on the bottle. I bet there are tons of apple shapped perfume bottles. The only reason she is gonna bring a lawsuit against this is because its twilight and she sees dollar signs. Change the leaves so no one cries and get on with it.

Have you actually looked at the pictures? There is saying "Oh, mine is an apple, their's is an apple too!" and trying to sue, but the bottles are almost identical. Sure, a slight "hue" difference in the glass? So you're saying I can reproduce the Mona Lisa, and call it my own, just so long as I change a few colours? The bottle shape is exactly the same, the apple part, the leaves, the bulb on the top. Bottle designs, as well as scents, are copyrighted to their creators and owners (It's called ownership rights, duh), and Nina Ricci specifically had this design made for this scent by Lalique, a bottle designing company they have worked with for years. Especially with Nina Ricci, known for her innovative and creative bottle designs (Do some research into her, as much work goes into the design of the bottle as it does into designing her scents). By copying the shape and imitating the materials used to create something that Nina Ricci designed, they violated the law, and now will have to suffer. It's illegal for them to profit on something they did not design, plain and simple.

What I am seeing here (and on other blog sites) are a bunch of fans bawing because their fandom is threatened.
Forbidden fruit or not, the Makers of the Twilight perfume are trying to profit from someone else's bottle design.

you 'twilighters' don't seem to have a very good grasp on the law so I shall try and explain it in your language. Someone writes a book and puts it in a cover almost identical to that of the twilight cover.... would you not call that stealing and demand that they put a different cover on their book. yes you would, so stop being such pathetic no0bs!

When I first heard news of this Twilight perfume, I had to check it out to see how utterly DUMB people are for buying crap like this. I came across this blog, and read the comments, and I have to say, God are all you Twilight fangirls STUPID! Queen cash cow SJP/makers of the Twilight perfume blatantly ripped off Nina Ricci, and it's insulting to Nina Ricci and her patrons. True, the apple may be the symbol of Twilight and all it entails, but could the makers of Twilight perfume have not copied Ricci's design? I mean, DKNY's Apple perfume is in the shape of an apple, and they didn't rip off designs from any other companies. This is just absurd how they ripped off Nina Ricci, and how all you Twilight fans are whinning about how "gay" and "lame" Nina Ricci is for sueing SJP and/or the makers of the Twilight perfume. All I hear is "wha wha wha."
And I completely agree with Thel on this one. If someone wrote a novel that was almost identical to Meyer's Twilight saga & had nearly identical covers on them, you retards would be bitching about "what a ripoff" the hypothetical series is. Seriously, get over yourself and your sparkling vampires. Sure Edward's an appealing character (get this, he was inspired by another character. His name is Mr. Darcy, and he's from Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. You girls might want to try reading that instead.) Also, it's called FICTION for a reason. And NO, copying someone else is not "okay."

Oh my god, would all the stupid Twilight fans please shut up. It's fine if they make their stupid perfume's bottle apple-shaped, it's NOT fine if it's the exact design as Nina Ricci's. When I heard about Twilight having a perfume (I've read all the Twilight books by the way, they aren't amazing literature and the characters are annoying but they're entertaining enough) I looked it up and almost crapped my pants... I have both the original "Nina" perfume and more recently was given the gold edition, not to mention I'm obsessive over the photographer of the ads, Eugenio Recuenco... so I'm PRETTY familiar with the shape of the bottle.

I am a twilight fan and I fully understand the legalities, of course it is copying, the Nina Ricci bottle is gorgeous and deserves to stay unique. However, I am not happy with the insults strewed across this page. Please do not insult all the people who appreciate a series of books because of a few youngsters who don't understand. No matter how much you know about the law, calling a group of people stupid, dumb and pathetic n00bs is not right.
Btw, I have read Pride and Prejudice and it also one of my favourite books, maybe you should look up the work 'Prejudice'

I have a few words to add to all this...just today I came across this bottle thing, and I must say, I'm with Nina. I'm a huge fan of both, Nina and Twilight (movie and books). When I saw Twilight perfume and that adorable bottle that I love so much, I kinda thought that Nina Ricci has some kind of a deal with them, like a special edition Twilight/Nina perfume and it made me soooo happy, two things I like the most together! But then disappointment! I'm a photographer, so I know what copyright means, I myself would take some legal actions against those who would take my photographs for their marketing. It is how it goes in the bussiness world, and Twilight ppl ought to be a little more careful 'bout stuff like that. (i have my own solution for that, they settle with Nina Ricci, her bottle and perfume with signature in twilight box, and they pay her for her rights and everyone's happy) :D

Hahaha... The comments on this page is clearly more amusing than the actual article. It's obviously not an issue of what's COOLER or which you should care more about... It's the principle of the matter. It's like watching a battle between the educated and the born idiots.
