Oscar Mayer -- A Tribute

Oscar Mayer, the man behind the famous Oscar Mayer meat brand has died at the age of 95 from 'complications of old age' according to his wife Geraldine.

He was the third Oscar Mayer in the family that founded Oscar Mayer Foods, which once was Madison's largest private employer. His grandfather, Oscar F. Mayer, died in 1955 and his father, Oscar G. Mayer Sr., died in 1965.

He retired from the board in 1977, and the company was later sold to General Foods.

Public visitation at the Cress Funeral Home are scheduled from 4 to 7pm Thursay and Friday for the public to pay their last respects to Oscar Mayer.
