Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, began its promotion to attract tourists by floating 20 million tourist consumption cards, the "Panda Card" on Mar. 24. 11 key state-owned scenic spots in Chengdu will provide free or discounted entrance to the Panda Card holders.

There are two kinds of "Panda Card", the "Gold Panda Card" and the "Silver Panda Card". Chengdu will issue 15 million "Gold Panda Cards" to tourists from other provinces as well as 5 million "Silver Panda Cards" to visitors from Sichuan Province.

From Mar. 24 to Dec. 31, 2009, the "Gold Panda Card" holders enjoy free entrance to the 11 scenic spots in Chengdu, while the "Silver Panda Card" holders enjoy 50% discount. These 11 scenic spots include Dujiang Dam, Mount Qingcheng, Xiling Snow Mountain, ski resort on Xiling Snow Mountain, Wuhou Temple, Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage, Jinsha Site Museum, Yongling Mausoleum Museum, Giant Panda Breeding Base, Liu’s Manor and Mount Tiantai.

It is very convenient for tourists to apply for the "Panda Card". The city has cooperated with tourist departments of other cities in China in issuing the "Panda Card". Visitors can acquire the "Panda Card" for only RMB 1 at sales networks at the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, major airline companies, the commercial bank branches and offices, etc. All the 20 million cards will be issued to tourists before Aug. 1.

Apart from the reduction or exemption of entrance fees, the "Panda Card" also has other functions including the preferential discount which enables cardholders to enjoy the discount in the member units of "Best Travel Alliances". Currently, the alliances attracted more than 300 tourism-related enterprises within Sichuan Province as their members. In addition, the cardholders can recharge cards for use in the member units of  "Best Travel Alliances". The card owners can also be rewarded with prizes or gifts through the "point collection" service offered by the "Panda Card".
