'DK Bunny Butcher': PETA Targets DKNY
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has targeted DKNY over its use of fur in some of its products. PETA members became fans of DKNY on Facebook, changed their profile pics to letters, and left comments to spell out "DK BUNNY BUTCHER". The letters remained intact for quite some time, though at the moment they've fallen off the front page, replaced by repeated protest messages.
Suprisingly, DKNY hasn't done anything to manage this. Currently, the DKNY Facebook page has over 205,700 fans; it's unclear how many became fans just to post PETA messages. The updates will reach any DKNY fan who a) hasn't hidden DKNY updates, and b) navigates to DKNY's Facebook page.
In addition to the Facebook protest, PETA has also held demonstrations outside of Donna Karan's New York offices and events she has hosted, as well as retail outlets carrying her design, Senior Campaigner Ashley Byrne told us. When asked why PETA turned to Facebook specifically, she said the organization "hope[d] to reach new audiences who may not yet know about the cruelty that goes into every piece of fur used in her line."
