No doubt! Prices influence greatly on our purchasing decisions – and when it comes to LCD TVs, LCD televisions are more expensive in comparison with their counterpart plasma TVs- in particular PLASMA TVs with screen sizes ranging more than 52- inch – And prices show discrepancy from brand to brand and size to size.
The higher price tag LCD is due to the complicated production process of particular TV or brand. In comparison- Plasma display production better utilizes of its resources and raw materials thus giving a pricing advantage over LCD TVs, chiefly in case of larger ones.
As we try to find out why LCD production costlier than its counterpart? – we discovered that estimated 30% of manufactured panels are discarded due to the defect we call “bad pixels”. And that is the reason no manufacturer can guarantee you – free from bad pixels LCD display.
Although a recent development in LCD production has led to substantial price slash in LCD panels. To be very specific, latest LCD HDTV’s pricing is somewhat near to plasma televisions of the same size- especially screen sizes ranging up-to or 50- inch size.
Comparing prices of 50- inch size of LCD and plasma TV – we found a very negligible difference in the prices… even if plasma has price advantage but is marginal- and technologically – comparison of cost is pointless issue. While comparing we found some surprising results, a latest 52-inch Samsung LN52A650 LCD HDTV and smaller plasma equivalent –bearing the same Samsung brand name, the 50-inch Samsung PN50A650 plasma HDTV. This plasma is just $350 cheaper than its LCD counterpart. Price difference is insignificant in comparison to the $1000 or more we paid few years ago.
If you want to make the most out of your available budget- this screen size, your only readily available 720p option is a plasma HDTV. So next time you opt out to buy television, it would be better to go for 720p plasma HDTV. As 40-inch 720p LCD TVs are getting out of market; plasma HDTV gives you far better deal than the previous ones.
You may get confused when some one tells you that 720p will not deliver same quality and picture level as that of 1080p- in fact, it’s true. But screens with the sizes less or 50inch- difference can’t be perceived in picture details by 1080p or 720p display – viewed from a recommended distance.
