US pop star Michael Jackson has died.He was aged 50.He was in coma and family members have gathered at his bedside.He was believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Doctors have pronounced he is dead.

Michael,50, the "King of Pop", was earlier rushed to the UCLA Medical Center from his Bel Air home by the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.Large crowds in various costumes have begun to gather outside the UCLA Medical Center.

The Los Angeles Times reports he was not breathing when the paramedics arrived at his rented home in response to a distress call.

Capt. Steve Ruda said the paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) to revive him from his cardial arrest.They then rushed him to the hospital.

Michael had wanted to make a dramatic comeback to stardom with planned live concerts to settle his massive debts,beginning the scheduled concert in the United Kingdom on July 13.

He had started as a member of the Motown's Jackson 5. 

In the 1970s,the Jackson 5 was the first group in pop history to top the charts with their first four hits like the catchy I'll Be There,The Love You Save,ABC and I Want You Back.

Michael,the youngest member of the Jackson 5,scored big with solo hits like the fun Rockin' robin and Got To Be There.

Celebrity music producer,composer and arranger Quincy Jones,recognized the rising star's remarkable talent, then moulded Michael into the world's pop superstar.

The 1979 Off The Wall album with hits like She's Out Of My Life,Rock With You and Don't Stop Till You Get Enough blazed a new path for Michael with his modernist song and dance act that captured the hearts of teenagers worldwide. 

In 1983,Thriller with seven hit singles became the best selling album of all time,selling 55 million copies.

Then came Beat It that took the world by storm.

Pop legend Paul McCartney also recorded hit duets with Michael.They collaborated in songs like The Girl Is Mine,Girlfriend and Say Say Say.

In 1985,We Are The World,the USA For Africa charity single co-written by Michael and Lionel Ritchie, topped the charts in the United States.

In 1987,Quincy Jones produced the megahit album,Bad, with five number one hits like Dirty Diana and Man In The Mirror.

The next album in 1991 with hits like Heal The World and Black and White marked the zenith of  Michael's spectacular musical career.

Thereafter,it was a slide downhill with one setback after another as he fell from grace.

He went wild literally with weird costumes,plastic surgery and wrong company.

Instead of shining brighter as he aged,his star became clouded and blackened by scandals.  

He had been dogged by bad publicity linked to his trial and acquittal on child molestation charges in Neverland.
