Retail sales 'fall still further' - UK
As Christmas approaches retailers normally see an increase in sales starting from November but the British Retail Consortium have announced that sales in November this year actually fell.
This is the second month in a row that retail sales have fallen and two consecutive months of falling sales have not been recorded for 13 years.
All the big retailers have huge pre-Christmas discounts on offer as they try to make the best from the downturn but after Christmas there could be some casualties even amongst some of the most famous retail names on the UK high streets.
Total UK retail sales have fallen in consecutive months for the first time in at least 13 years, a closely-watched survey has found.
Sales in November fell 0.4% from a year earlier, said the latest British Retail Consortium KPMG Retail Sales Monitor.
Following a 0.1% decline in October, it was the first drop in the annual rate over two months since the survey was first released in January 2005.
The report said retailers were now facing a "nerve-wracking Christmas".
'Food sales up'
On a like-for-like basis - which pulls out the impact of new store openings and closures - the survey found that sales in November were down 2.6%.

Prices for all goods in the UK are excessive and a rip-off. That is why people are cutting back. Cut prices and people will get back to buying some things. But people in the UK have the highest debt levels in human history, so don't expect too much.
