Photos: the Cosplayers of Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 is underway. Fans of cult, sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and comics have converged in San Diego. We're keeping a running photo roundup of cosplay: all those fans who dress up as their favorite characters. Check back often, as this story will get plenty of updates.

Be honest: when you search for Comic-Con pictures, you're really searching for cosplay pictures, and that's okay-- it's one of the reasons they do it: it's (almost) as much fun for spectators as it is for the participants.

Cosplay can be funny, sexy, interpretive, hyper-realistic, or any combination thereof. Cosplay ideas come from all areas of sci-fi/fantasy/horror/anime/gaming fandom, and are by no means limited to comics.

Captain America, Black Widow, Nick Fury from The Avengers
Stormtroopers

Scott and Derek from MTV's Teen Wolf (and maybe a few Michael J. Fox teen wolves as well)

Kids dressed as the Hulk
The 11th Doctor from Doctor Who
Venture Brothers characters, especially The Monarch & Dr. Girlfriend
Pikachu (you'll be amazed at the variations on this one)
Ghostbusters

Gender-bent super-heroes
Batman, Bane, Catwoman, and The Joker (Heath Ledger version, naturally)

How Many Slave Leias at Comic-Con?

If only there were a definitive Slave Leia count... This year's jelly-bean-jar guess is 411. 411 Slave Leias at SDCC 2012. We posit that the Slave Leia ranks have been thinned by Black Widow cosplayers, as well as some Dr. Girlfriends.
