Seminole, Orange County Public Schools Flip Bus Schedule

Students in Florida's Seminole and Orange county public schools are headed back to school, and the school bus schedule has flipped away from last year's cost-cutting format so that middle school students don't have to wait for the bus before dawn.

"Within a three-mile radius of Carver Middle School there are 414 registered sexual offenders," said one mom during a public hearing last year. "You're leaving our children there as prey."

Last year, middle school classes began at 7:30am and high school classes started at 9:30am. Back to school is not "back to cool" if you live in an area populated by registered sex offenders and you have to wait for the school bus in the dark.

Courtney Walling is a junior at Winter Park High who says she wasn't happy to have to get up so early Monday morning.

"I'm not ready for the homework and the schedule again," said Walling. "I kind of like just hanging out with my friends and enjoying summer and being relaxed. I'm just not ready for the stresses of school."

What happened to waiting for Labor Day before going back to school?
