Zelda Kaplan: NY Socialite Dies During Joanna Mastroianni Fashion Show
95-year-old socialite Zelda Kaplan collapsed during Joanna Mastroianni's show at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week. The photo below shows Zelda Kaplan shortly before she collapsed.
Zelda Kaplan was taken to hospital by paramedics and later pronounced dead. The fashion show continued, as those in attendance would not have realized how serious Zelda Kaplan's condition was.
Zelda Kaplan was famous for her constant presence in New York City's nightlife: she's basically been partying for 50 years, dividing her time between charity work, women's-rights activism and Manhattan's nightclubs.
Zelda Kaplan was the subject of a documentary called Her Name is Zelda, and made the list of FHM's most eligible women of 2004.
Witnesses said the socialite “slumped forward” as the second model came out on the runway, and she was carried out and given CPR by paramedics. An ambulance rushed her to the hospital, but she couldn’t be revived.
