Finally  the so long awaited design week in Sofia is a fact.

Numerous exhibitions are scattered allover the city, but one of the most interesting events is the NEXT IDENTITY FORUM: an international event, part of the festival that gathers some of the most significant names in avant-garde design nowadays: 3 days, 17 speakers. And the first one was Ji Lee - Google Creative Lab Creative Director. It is hard to expect how influential one hour can be! One of the projects he is very famous with is The Bubble Project, but that just shows how a simple design idea can start the change .

Some of the other interesting guests were Philippe Apeloig, the Louvre design consultant and designer of Musee d'Orsay, guests and exhibitions from the Netherlands including Kesselskramer agency, graphic designer Henk Groenendyk, Lust design agency, Richard Niessen, Cris Kabel  - the young star of the Dutch design, whose author’s furniture is distributed by the legendary DROOG design, 5.5 designers studio, Autoban - Istanbul’s vanguard studio for design, interior and architecture,  Vincenzo De Cotiis, etc.The first edition of the event, according to its organizers, aims to place Sofia on the global map of design, and – in taking place annually, to involve Bulgaria on a regular basis in the ongoing global discussion on the future of design.

Below is a quotation from your requirements:

"A story is marked as News Wanted if it is:

  • A breaking event
  • Important and recent
  • Needs local coverage"

- well, my story tells about probably the most important event for Sofia what concerns design - so it is important

It happened this month - so it is recent.

It is exactly local coverage.

What is the problem then?
