The Square Restaurant In Bangkok, Thailand
The biggest problem with any buffet is how to keep the food warm but not dried out. The one factor that most helps the restaurant to conquer that problem is volume. The more people at the buffet, the faster the food disappears and is replaced by fresh serving trays. It’s a simple reason and quite true.
At The Square, the number of people dining at any given meal seems to be quite high (after observations at a number of visits), and that combined with the innovative selection and high quality to begin with, provide diners with a great dining experience.
It should be noted here also that The Square has an excellent ala carte menu and a fairly extensive wine list, but on each of our several visits we eschewed the menu and headed straight for the buffet.
The Thai dishes cover a wide range of regional cuisine and are occasionally supplemented by Thai regional food specials. Our favorites include the spicy tuna salad, vegetables in oyster sauce and the curries and soups. They’re prepared Thai-style as far as spicyness goes, just so that you know.
International food includes the obligatory smoked salmon, a good salad bar that contains all the makings for your own chefs salad and a large selection of cold salads including a delicious ham, cheese and raisin concoction.
You’ll also find, on different days, dishes such as cauliflower au gratin, various potato servings, roast beef and pork carved to order and a number of chicken and seafood dishes as well. The total is close to 20 by our estimate.
The aforementioned desserts consisted for us of chocolate cake, charlotte and blueberry cheesecake and were joined on the counter by a dozen others and fresh fruit.
The room itself is almost completely enclosed in glass, providing you with a view of the busy Siam Square shopping and entertainment area and the atmosphere is generally pleasant and comfortable.
This buffet is one worth attending more than once whether you’re staying in the hotel or not. You’ll have a chance to visit and explore Siam Square, have a great meal and take in a small part of the Bangkok experience.
