If a Venti Starbucks is No Longer Enough For You, the New Starbucks Trenta Might Be What You are Looking For

A 24 ounce beverage may not be enough for some coffee and tea lovers, so Starbucks is currently testing a new size in their Phoenix and Tampa stores, and if the new size is successful, then it could be coming to a Starbucks near you.

Starbucks' Trenta - What is it?

The Trenta is the next size up from the Venti, and it can hold 31 ounces (920 milliliters) of coffee or tea. Right now, only iced coffee and iced tea beverages are being offered in the Trenta size in the test scores, but there is talk that they may expand that to include Frappuccinos and other flavors of blended drinks if the Trenta size is successful.

What is the Calorie Count for a Starbucks Trenta Drink?

DietsInReview did some investigation in to the size of this new drink, but even if the size only offers iced coffee and iced tea beverages, that can still up the calorie count if the drinks are sweetened of if cream and sugar are added to them for example. According to the Starbucks Nutrition Website, a Venti Tazo Black Shaken Iced Tea Lemondae has 190 calories and 49g of sugars. An Iced Coffee with Milk has 190 calories also, with 36g of sugars, but if you were to add your own cream to that it would be higher.

Calorie counts for a 16-ounce beverage range from 130 for an Iced Caffe Latte to 400 for an Iced Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha; so if the beverage is doubled, you could easily take in more than a meal’s worth of fat and calories just in a beverage.

They did receive a response from Starbucks on the calorie discussion:

While we have introduced the Trenta size (31 oz.) in certain markets, it is simply a new item we are testing in response to our customers asks for larger iced tea and coffee. Trenta is only available for iced teas and iced coffees. Unsweetened the beverages are less than 5 calories, but even a sweetened iced coffee or tea in a Trenta cup would be less than 200 calories.

Ellen DeGeneres Talked About the Trenta Size on Her Show Tuesday March 23

Ellen DeGeneres compared the sizes on her show on March 23 and placed beside the Venti size, one can see how much bigger the Trenta size really is. She joked that if the Trenta size comes in a 'hot cup' style, it will say 'lift with your knees' on the size.

DeGeneneres said that the beverage costs $3.30, but then discussed a more serious matter when she stated that 'we' consume too much of everything. She compared the Starbucks Trenta to Taco Bell's new promotion called The Fourth Meal; Bring On The Night. She joked that's not the night, but our huge stomachs blocking out the sun.

She then said that how can anyone survive on just three meals anymore.

This is just sick. Starbucks should not move forward with this from a strictly ethical point of view. I have always worked for independent coffee shops, but I still typically stick up for Starbucks, considering they do normally have good values and standards. Well... not anymore. I am incredibly disappointed with their decision.

wow, just wow.I mean I could see this being totally viable for cold drinks. But Fraps, espresso drinks, or even iced teas...that's over-consumption in my opinion. Then again, we are a country of excess, so who knows...
