I had no idea that canned pumpkin is not actually pumpkin, but it explains why I always thought scratch made pumpkin pie tasted so different. A friend of mine has an amazing garden and she is always sharing her crops with friends. Last time I went to visit her she gave me two pumpkins from her private pumpkin patch, instructions on how to roast them and two pumpkin pie recipes. This is what I ended up with. I didn't make the crust and I didn't cover the edges so they burned a little, but I don't really like crust anyway. The filling was delicious. I was very proud of my first scratch made pumpkin pie. So proud I made another one at work the next day! I froze the rest of my pumpkin and I plan on making my third pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.
