Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld is being honoured by the Steiff Company, maker of stuffed animals, with a namesake teddy bear. The bear will be dressed in the designers signature white-collared shirt and black tie. The limited edition bear will sold starting Sept. 15 and will retail for $1,550 Cdn. Only 2500 will be made.

It is covered in alpaca wool and stands 40 centimetres tall. It will be decked out in clothes and accessories Lagerfeld himself approved: sunglasses, jeans and a belt buckle studded with his own initials.

The bear is being made with the blessing if its namesake designer. In interviews, Lagerfeld was full of praise for the teddy bear.

"I really love animals, particularly when they are stuffed with cotton or polyester," said Lagerfeld, who grew up in Hamburg. "That way you can guarantee that they won't bite, won't claw, won't smell bad and make your things dirty."

Lagerfeld, who owned a teddy bear as a child, has been given one of the dolls but states he won't be taking the teddy to bed with him.
