NP Rank:
Ties declared unsafe - UK schools ban traditional ties
Ties are making a comeback in many fashionable circles with the cream of London's grime scene such as Chipmunk and Dizzee Rascal recently being seen in suits, ties and even pork pie hats.
As this return to the traditional tie grows in popularity we now hear that many UK schools are banning the wearing of real ties in favour of clip-on ties for 'health and safety' reasons.
Many pupils are angry at having to wear these imitation and style free ties and some have even started online petitions to stop schools insisting that only clip-on ties can be worn.
Some are wondering how schoolboys and girls and salary men everywhere have managed to get by without being strangled by their ties and if there is anywhere to be found an official piece of advice from the health & safety executive to replace traditional ties with clip-ons.
Meanwhile until all ties are banned practice your Windsor knot don your suit, hat and diamond rings and shimmy on down with Chipmunk.
Pupils have launched an online protest over being forced to wear clip-on ties in case they strangle themselves or get them caught in equipment.
More than 400 pupils and former students have joined a Facebook group protest demanding that traditional ties be restored.
The new dress code was brought in before the end of term at McAuley Catholic High School, in Cantley, Doncaster in response to health and safety fears.

Ties unsafe? That's just silly, as we all know, but there's a silver lining here: wearing a real tie at school will be considered an act of rebellion. That just blew my mind.

Its happening already - kids want to learn all the different varieties of knots - so that they can show off - strange change!

Are they really banning real ties or did some brilliant administrator finally figure out a way to get boys to dress properly for school without resorting to force, punishment and threats?

I am not a fan of tie..but I wear them occasionally.
You don't want to wear them operating machinaries but other than that I am sure they won't strangle you.

Wow, this never even crossed my mind - but what about the metal piece on the clip on tie, couldn't that be some kind of a weapon as well if we're really going to get silly about it?

Should the government worry about more important things.
