Brewdog threw down the gauntlet with its stoat-encased 'End of History' beer. However, Jan Nijboer of t'Koelschip Brewery says that his latest creation is even stronger, weighing in at 120 proof (60% alcohol by volume). Cheekily, the new beer is called 'Start the Future'.

Start the Future sells for a fraction of the price commanded by End of History, which had a microdistribution of 12 bottles.

Until End of History came along, t'Koelschip claimed alcohol-content supremacy with its Oblix beer, which had a now-quaint alcohol level of 90 proof.

Nijboer's Almere-based brewery, 't Koelschip (The Refrigerated Ship), sells the new beer, which is 120 proof and dubbed "Start the Future," in a one-third liter bottle for 35 euros ($45) each.

Nijboer told ANP he developed the new brew to keep up with Scottish outfits that were also pushing the boundaries of beer's alcohol content.
