Today is National Chocolate Chip Day!
Today is National Chocolate Chip Day!!! There are so many things you can make with chocolate chips...chocolate chip cookies, pancakes, brownies, muffins, ice cream, waffles, granola bars, pie, crepes, cupcakes, trail mix...you can pretty much add them to anything!
As if you needed another reason to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies, here comes National Chocolate Chip Day on May 15th!
Chocolate chips were created in 1937 by Ruth Graves Wakefield when she chopped up some chocolate and baked the pieces in a batch of cookies. The cookies became extremely popular, and in 1939 Nestle began producing Toll House Chocolate Chips.

It is fairly typical in our house that when chocolate chip cookies are made...that the dough never quite gets to the oven. This was the case here.

When I came home mid-semester, I baked cookies for my family.. When I came back three months later, only one was gone. Apparently I can't bake = [, so i took a picture of some really stale cookies.

Always looking for an unusual twist, these butter cakes were infused with orange and mini-chocolate chips then dipped in sweet chocolate fudge glaze. The perfect snack for the student.

These didn't last long.
As a mother of four, cookie monsters - all of them, when I make my mother's chocolate chip cookie recipe, I have to double it.
And even then, they don't last long.
The smell of fresh baked cookies, combined with that fresh out of the oven taste, are just too much to resist.
Definitely a favorite in our house.

These were made with a Tassajara recipe. Mint flavoring replaced a little bit of the water, and mini chocolate chips were used.

I'm all in favor (and flavor) of National Chocolate Chip Day! Ordinarily I'm a C-C cookie guy, but the chocolate chip scones, especially the coffee+chip ones, from Lazy Jane's restaurant in Madison, WI, are the bomb.
