The UK's version of stylishly low-priced disposable couture culture is descending into a blinding whirlwind of Big Apple enthusiasm as shoppers lined up for hours Thursday morning ahead of the opening of the fashionable megaboutique Topshop in New York City.

Supermodel Kate Moss is one of several fashion celebrities to design exclusive collections for Topshop, which opened at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:00am Thursday in Soho.

Judging by some bloggers' initial reactions, there's not much sign of a recession inside: "People are pillaging as if the whole store is going to disappear tomorrow."

Today is like Christmas and the Barneys warehouse sale and a bizarro version of the Fourth of July in which the British won the Revolutionary War but brought us adorable liberty prints at fairly reasonably prices—all rolled into one. That's right: Topshop, after endless delays, is finally opening on Broadway in Soho

Kate Moss made an appearance this morning to say hello to the hordes of ravenous fashionistas — for an incredible 10 seconds!

Kate's wearing a long green dress and came outside with Sir Philip for about ten seconds. Thrilling!

lol @ topshopocalypse ... when i heard about this store i began to wonder where the clothing is made.....sweat shop fashion anyone? I'm always amazed when i hear women bragging about shopping at victorias secret...if they knew what the lives of the woman on the production end looked like they'd realize their underwear is as digusting as wearing a fur coat. At least a god da&$ed animal just gets to die while these people live their lives as slaves at the sewing machine....I guess its kind of like the poor horses being used in horse drawn carriages in cities with eight million people or more....also absurd.
