I am publishing a series of travel tips, these are quick trips that you can make at the weekend, driving and seeing something different.  Yesterday I published a mini article about  covered bridges and today my tip is the old lighthouses.

This directory is very comprehensive, you can find several interesting lighthouses in many states, I personally use this as a guide.

That is my slideshow with pictures from the historical lighthouses; some of them were made abroad.

I also found this article  about the lighthouse real estate market with the credit crunch, interesting reading:

It's not just house sales that have been hit by the credit crunch - try selling a lighthouse these days.

Former 60s rock star Bip Weatherall has now slashed £200,000 off the price tag of his Grade II listed holiday home - Hunstanton Lighthouse - after it has spent more than a year on the market.

With stunning panoramic views across The Wash, the drop from £695,000 to £499,000 comes at a turbulent time for property prices across the region and the country.

Today tells a different story from mid nineties when Mr Weatherall bought the house within an hour of seeing the For Sale sign.

The current economic climate is partly to blame for the sudden fall in price but property experts say the lighthouses' proximity to the cliff and difficulty in pricing such a unique building could account for the discount.

How interesting about selling lighthouses - I guess you never think about that.

Great pictures too.

Charming. Saw a movie the other day with huge extended family moving into one. Dennis Quaid.

I always thought it would be fun to live in a lighthouse for a little while.  Reminds me of a children's book I read when I was little I think, not sure of the name.
