Karen Wu is a Seattle-based designer who was born in Taiwan and raised in LA.  Her spring/summer 2009 show at Vancouver Fashion Week on Friday afternoon opened with a number of knit pieces…I was fond of the casual dresses but this type of fabric accentuates every imperfection and I would have to somewhat agree with Victoria Potter of Demicouture on this matter when she dubbed “VFW = cellulite runway” :

Now, I’m 100% behind having healthy-sized models on the runway but you don’t put anyone in an unflattering garment, ever. It’s fashion week, the models are supposed to look amazing.  I'm sure there must have been another garment that could have highlighted her features and done this model justice.

Wu followed up the knit pieces with a few more dresses and gowns.  I loved this colourful print,:

And finally, the one that drew gasps from the audience:

Hi Terri,

I agree with you! However, did you know that I didn't even get a chance to meet the models until 2 hours before my show to do fitting, makeup, and hair?! The models were also NOT informed of what types of shoes to bring to the show! If I had control over the models prior to the show, I would of been able to fit them properly with the right outfits and shoes. But with only 2 hrs to do everything before the show.....

Oh no!  What a disaster that must have been prior to the show - I feel for you.  As a whole, though, I'd be happy with the way everything turned out!  Thanks for commenting.

I thought it was fab.  Some shoes were a problem but as far as the models not looking perfect in the dresses?!  That's what I loved.  It made them look wearable to the "normal" women and I think it looked sexy to have a bit of reality showing.  Who wants to see women all sucked in with "proper" unders and all covered up with body makeup or fake tan or whatever.

The lightweight knits looked very sexy especially with a little "ponch" showing.  Who cares!  Gorgeous cloths!

Terri-

I have struggled for 4 months on how to respond to this posting.  While you have a writer's perogative to express you opinion, I hope you realize how damaging posting actual images of these models can be and then pointing out flaws.  I wonder if you consider how that would make you feel.  I worked as a costume designer for 5 years and struggled having to report 1-2 dancers every year.

I encourage to take the social responsibility of your blog more serious.
