For many, Christmas Day is a time to stay inside and spend it with family and friends, but for others it's a day to either go to work or get out of the house if you can.

While the big stores such as Costco, WalMart, and Target are not open on Christmas Day 2011, there are some options for your shopping needs.

Walgreens, CVS, and 7-11 stores are open on Christmas Day, but some may have limited hours so check with each location before you head out on Christmas Day.

Most grocery stores are closed, however it appears some smaller, privately owned grocery stores are opening for a while on Christmas Day to try and get some of that holiday business. They have more stock than convenience stores as well.

What restaurants are open?

Most restaurants are closed, especially chain restaurants, but there are of course some exceptions.

Denny's, Golden Corral, and IHOP all have some locations open on Christmas Day, although it may be with limited hours so it's best to call or check before you head out for your Christmas Day meal.

For Canadians, many Tim Hortons locations are now open for at least a few hours on Christmas Day.
