Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and it is a big shopping day in the US. Most restaurants will also be open along with most shops, and big stores even have Memorial Day sales.

Stores such as Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Costco and most car manufacturers take advantage of Memorial Day to host big sales and 2011 will be no exception.

Over the next couple of days, look for sale announcements from these stores and more so that you can plan your weekend.

Most liquor stores are also open on Memorial Day, although they may be on holiday or shortened hours.

Most store hours for the big chains, such as those listed above, will be regular store hours, although it is always best to check online or by calling the store before setting out just to make sure. Some will be on shorter holiday hours so that their employees can also enjoy Memorial Day.

So plan your shopping and don't forget to take advantage of the sales!
