Wine-a-Prix, Celebrates M. Andretti's Love of Food, Wine & Racing
August 8, 2012- The Grand Prix of Baltimore will take place on September 2, 2012. Andretti Sports Marketing will organize the Labor Day weekend event.
Mario Andretti is one of the most well-known racing icons in the world. His passion for racing is equaled by his love of fine wine.
He started the Andretti Winery in 1996 with longtime friend Joe Antonini. His connection to Baltimore is that same year the Baltimore Ravens began its inaugural season. The team in 1996 also drafted future Hall-of-Fame players Ray Lewis and Jonathan Ogden (Ogden will eligible for the HOF in 2013).
The winery www.andrettiwinery.com is located in Napa Valley and produces 3 series of fine wines the Montona Reserve, Napa Valley, and Villa Andretti.
"Wine-a-Prix" was created to celebrate Mario's love of the good life during the Grand Prix of Baltimore week.
The City of Baltimore and its fine dining restaurants will be on display for all the tourists and visitors to indulge in during race week August 27- September 2.
The "Wine-a-Prix" logo was created by Derrick E. Vaughan of Baltimore, MD. Vaughan also this past June 6, 2012 had a main 1.3 mile stretch of downtown and the Inner Harbor (MLK Blvd. and Pratt Street to Harbor East) area be named The Wine'tastic Mile of Baltimore.
The Wine'tastic Mile was honored with a Proclamation and Citation by City of Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Governor Martin O'Malley.
