Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on March 19 urged accelerating the construction of the Viet Nam Ethnic Minority Culture and Tourism Village so that it can be completed on schedule in time for Ha Noi’s 1,000 th anniversary in 2010.Speaking at a meeting with the project’s management board, Nhan said that the village’s slow progress in construction might keep it from being part of the anniversary festivities.
Construction began only last May on the 500 million USD tourist attraction in Dong Mo District of Ha Tay province, 60 km west of Ha Noi, though the project was approved by the Government a decade ago.
The village is designed to illustrate traditional architecture and other aspects of the daily lives of the country’s 54 ethnic groups.
To speed up the project, Nhan suggested that its management board complete the project’s master plan soon and submit it to the Government for approval.
The board must also work out a specific development road map through 2010, Nhan said.
He said that the Government would consider allowing the project management board to operate under an autonomous financing regime as the village was a special project.
Nhan wanted project supervisors to review the landscape planning and suggested that each section of the village be run by people from a different ethnic group so as to better showcase the groups’ diverse customs, lifestyles and languages.
The Government would closely monitor the project and have annual review meetings with the board to help remove hurdles for the project, Nhan pledged.
