Nick Buck-Niehaus and Tony Kau of Portland, Oregon explored Yellowstone National Park on motorcycles last week. As they prepare to journey around the world on their motorcycles, beginning with South America, they are gaining valuable experience on 'mini-trips' while staying relatively close to home.
Encountering new situations, especially less-than-ideal situations, is an excellent exercise in problem solving and adapting to help them in the future. Emergency tire replacement, first-aid, makeshift bike repair, a close encounter with a grizzly bear, hours of gravel and trail riding, and close-to-freezing nighttime temperatures are just a few highlights of the scenarios that the two faced.
Buck-Niehaus, an avid photographer, captured some of the park's most stunning wildlife on camera, including a grizzly bear, bull elk, big horn sheep herd, and of course the park's famous road-crossing bison. Equally captivating are Buck-Niehaus' photos of the landscape and unique features of this national treasure.
