It seems somewhat ironic to me that in ending a promotional campaign, Subway was able to make Yahoo's most popular news today.  Kind of a twist on the adage that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Here's a blurb from the Yahoo story:

MILFORD, Conn. - The Subway restaurant chain said Thursday it is ending its decades-old free sandwich promotion, amid concerns that counterfeiters have been creating and selling copies of the restaurant's proof-of-purchase stamps and cards.

Subway, which operates more than 23,000 restaurants in 82 countries, joins a growing list of businesses %u2014 from pharmaceutical companies and cigarette manufacturers to recording studios and clothing designers %u2014 who say counterfeiters have hurt their bottom line.
