Summer Sundae Weekender 2007
Leicester, Leicestershire, central England, is not only famous for it's orange-red cheese, Leicester City football Club and championship Leicester Tigers Rugby Union team. It is also the venue for the Summer Sundae Weekender music festival. Friday 10 August - Sunday 12 August 2007
Summer Sundae Weekender is a major, three-day music festival held in the grounds of De Montfort Hall, Leicester. After an incredible and award winning time (Winner of Best Small Festival at the UK Festival Awards 2006 no less!) the urban festival with a rural heart is back with what promises to be another weekend of tremendous entertainment.
Headliners for the Friday night will be Neil Hannon's The Divine Comedy, a rare festival circut appearance set to kick-start the weekend. Summer Sundae Weekender favourites, The Magic Numbers, headline Satuday evening buidling on their masterful 2005 festival performance with their unique flavour of West Coast guitar pop. Jason Pierce will be performing Spiritualized and Spacemen 3 songs as Spiritualized- Acoustic Mainlines, complete with gospel choir and string quartet.
The musical treats keep coming from the blue collar rock of The Hold Steady to the electronic punk-funk of !!! to the poptastic Sophie Ellis Bextor. Plenty of ecclectic choice to get you up on your feet and satisfy your tastes.
If a more laid back approach is your style then the loving rock brigade The Broken Family Band and multi-talented singer/songwriter/poet Martha Wainwright will deliver having both built great live reputations. Minnesota’s Low will provide a set of beguiling beauty, and Super Furry Animals's frontman Gruff Rhys will be playing (as well as a few SFA Classics) songs from his critically acclaimed solo offering ‘Candelion’. Liverpool’s post-punk outfit Echo and The Bunnymen will be playing songs from their incredible back catalogue and they’ll be an interstellar set from space cadets The Aliens.
