Ibiza, Spain - More than six weeks after a freighter went down off the coast of the Spanish tourist island of Ibiza, the wreck is again leaking oil, reports said Sunday. A 300-metre-long oil slick washed ashore on Playa d'en Bossa beach, prompting the authorities to declare a swimming ban Sunday.

Stormy weather has meant that the pumping of oil from the wreck had to be halted and the high waves made floating barriers useless.

The MS Don Pedro hit an islet near the entrance to the port of Ibiza and sank on July 11. The ship was transporting lorries from Ibiza to Valencia. The 20 people on board were rescued unharmed.

In the days after the sinking divers managed to seal two of the three leaks in the tanks of the wreck, which had initially contained 200 tons of fuel. The freighter lies in 45 metres of water.
