A reminder to all that swimming at a beach can be a dangerous event. I am a member of a Surf Club (not the one mentioned) and unfortunately drownings occur easily - don't swim beyond your capabilities.

A 45-year-old Sydney man has drowned on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Police say the tourist was swimming between the flags at Kurrawa Beach with family and friends when he was caught in a rip just before 4pm AEST yesterday.

Lifesavers got him back to shore and tried to revive him, but he did not respond to any treatment.
