A yak caravan crosses the 19,000 foot Nangpa La [Pass] from Tibet to Nepal. Traditionally, these yak caravans carried valuable salt from Tibet to market in the Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal. Today, the means of transport is the same - yak - while the merchandise has changed to Chinese clothing, television sets, radios, and the like. The caravan is led by Mr. Tao from Tingri.
