Chinese New Year: January 26th, 2009

Chinese New Year this year falls on January 26th, 2009, when people welcome the start of the Year of the Ox. One of the most important Chinese holidays, Chinese New Year traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month and ends on the 15th.

The festival is celebrated in China itself and in parts of the world with large populations of ethnic Chinese. Celebrations vary according to location but are often marked by visits to friends and family; New Year parades are often held in cities with significant Chinese immigrant populations.
